Construction of Crossrail reached its halfway point last week, a milestone which was ceremoniously marked at the site of Tottenham Court Road station by a team of policymakers including Boris Johnson, David Cameron and Stephen Hammond. As progress continues across the Capital – our Future London Leaders saw Bond Street station’s progress earlier in January – the development and regeneration aims of the scheme are beginning to be realised on the ground.
Last month, we launched a new research programme on maximising the regeneration potential around Crossrail stations. Sponsored by Crossrail, Arup, GVA, and London Communications Agency, this multi-part programme is focused on delivery. It is designed to share strategies and best practice from areas which have seized station-area regeneration opportunities from Crossrail and its predecessors; to identify the opportunities remaining; and to look at how stakeholders can work across sectors and boundaries to deliver resilient communities at these revitalised hubs.
As part of the research process, we’re holding two research seminars to draw on the experience and insight of the Capital’s practitioners. The first seminar, on Thursday, January 30th, 15.00 to 17.30, will gather common experience from practitioners that will shape the project going forward.
The seminar will begin by introducing the programme and situating the research in the context of existing work. Speakers will include:
- Lisa Taylor, Director and Jennifer Johnson, Programme and Research Lead, Future of London
- Ian Lindsay, Land and Property Director, Crossrail
- Martyn Saunders, Principal Consultant, GVA
Following this, we would like to draw on the expertise of event attendees through smaller roundtable discussions on the following themes:
- Connection: Urban realm and surface transport
- Integration: Regeneration and engaging existing communities
- Development: Delivering major new schemes
The next research seminar will take place on February 25th, 15.00 to 17.30. Further details on this seminar are forthcoming. Please check here for updates.
These events are kindly hosted by Arup, located at 13 Fitzroy Street, London, W1T 4BQ: http://goo.gl/maps/5HwP4. The nearest station is Goodge Street (Northern Line).
Registration is required, and space is limited. To register your interest in attending, please email firstname.lastname@example.org and specify which roundtable discussion you’d like to contribute to. It’s helpful if you can provide us with a brief idea of how you’ve been involved with Crossrail or a similar transport-oriented scheme before. We will confirm if you have secured a spot.
If you are unable to attend but would like to contribute, please contact us.
